Life With Us
What can I expect
Because going into a Nursing Home can be a very difficult time for both the resident and their families, life at Melrose is built around residents for residents. We try to support relatives as well throughout the duration of their loved ones stay. Visitors are always welcome, and, with notice to the kitchen, can join their loved one for meals.
Activities and keeping involved
We offer a wide range of activities to help keep all residents active in mind and body. There is a wide range of activities on offer daily, and residents are encouraged to keep involved in the hobbies they enjoyed before admission, such as gardening/flower arranging or arts and crafts. There is a computer available for residents to use and even regular computer lessons for anyone who wants to improve their computer skills or take up surfing the net!
Apart from encouraging comment from our residents and families day to day, the residents’ committee gives an opportunity for residents to have a real impact on how we shape and run our services – with them at the centre of all we do.
Catering
In the kitchen, freshly cooked food is prepared daily, using locally bought meat, fruit and vegetables. The residents’ input is important to us when the excellent team of cooks re-design the menus; all diets are catered for.
Residents are encouraged to eat in the dining room but can stay in their rooms if they prefer. Should a resident want a light snack outside formal meal times this is provided for at any time.
Shared Facilities
The facilities offered provide a safe environment for our residents to enjoy their lives. There are handrails and wheelchairs as well as a lift to the first floor. We have three assisted baths over the two floors, as well as two state of the art ‘wet rooms’ (showers). There is a choice of sitting rooms, one lounge has colour television, dvd and audio equipment, there is a ‘television free’ sitting room in our lovely new conservatory, with a piano, and there is also a designated quiet room with lovely garden views to enjoy.
Gardens
The Gardens have been designed by our expert gardener, Judy Gordon, in conjunction with the residents. The garden is well stocked with beautiful trees, shrubs and borders. We have raised borders which can be tended from a wheelchair, and designated areas of garden are available should residents wish to have their own ‘patch’.
The patios and paths are well maintained to give a safe and very pleasant walking/seating area for all.
Parking
There is parking along the front of the house with dedicated entry and exit.
